Under the pouring Belgian rain Wave Freem wins once again in DPi and starts to open a gap in LMP2. 4 wins in a row for ELTA Customs in LMGTE
Spa-Francorchamps did not disappoint once again as far as unpredictability. The Belgian circuit’s race was hit by heavy rain falling down on the track during the 8 hours. The uncertainty of the weather did not change too much the outcome of the race. Wave Freem won in DPi and LMP2, while ELTA Customs continued his streak with a dominating performance in LMGTE.
Newcomers spice up DPi field, as Wave Freem #1 takes another win
They might not count for the points’ assignment, but newcomers Axle Sports #11 and Executive Project #26 proved to be competitive cars. In the end it was the Malaysia-based team to claim second place after an all-race long battle between the two entries. Good pace was shown as well by Team Shiba #32, but the Pastore brothers hit trouble early in the race and were forced to retire.
On the other side, it was not a flawless race for the regular DPi entries. Los Piratas #7 finished the race with a 5 laps gap to the leader. It did not go any better to Carloni #10, Nitor Velox #30 nor Ground Effect #9, as they all retired from the race as a consequence of accidents and failures. Even though the championship has nothing more to say in the final race, we might see some interesting battles between the new teams.
Wave Freem #47 dominates LMP2 class, Axle Sports #21 steals crucial championship points from BHK
It was a big show of strength in Spa-Francorchamps for the Wave Freem #47 crew. A 3 laps advantage on the second car to get the chequered flag in LMP2 proved why they are the team to beat. Wave Freem will head to Le Mans with a 28 points lead ahead of BHK Motorsport. Oreca #16 did not have a clean race in Spa with some unforced errors earlier and was beaten for second place by Axle Sports #21, a team which won the last round in Sebring and is showing some strong pace towards the end of the championship.
Anyway, for BHK Motorsport the third spot of the podium was a good result in the end. A conservative tyre choice, going for Intermediates on a drying track during the final stints, made the car driven by Flo Bosson fall into the clutches of ARMS SimRacing #42, which had to settle for fourth place in the end.
ELTA Customs wins LMGTE ahead of wild cards and extends the lead
Another show of strength in Spa was given by ELTA Customs #97. After a hard fought battle with DRS Wave Italy #82 in the first part of the race, the experience in the championship from Arduini and Geniale emerged and the two could claim another win, the fourth in a row. Race podium was completed by two wild cards Solo Sport Racing #66 (crew formed by David Martin and Malcolm Schneider) and the DRS Wave Italy trio (Giuseppe Curri – Mattia Fuligni – David Greco).
Fourth place for a surprising B&K Panica Gaming Team. #52 stepped up in a difficult race and brought home 18 crucial points considering the fact that the two wild cards do not count in the LMGTE championship standings. Behind them, after a difficult season, some fresh air for #61 Leo Racing Team as well. P6 and 12 points for Wave Freem eSports Junior #51. The crew formed by Kikko Galbiati, Michele Roccon and Andrea Terzi was doing a good job fighting for the first spots, but a screen freeze and later on a connection lost sent them to the back of the grid, having to fight for a comeback.
The final 24 hours are coming
Even though the DPi title has already been assigned, there is not a single reason why you should stop following the championship in its final race, the 24 Hours of Le Mans. There are still two title-battles open and the third season of EES still has a lot of stories to tell. On top of that, during the official live streaming on Pitlane TV we will announce our plans for the 2021-2022 simracing season, so don’t miss it!
