Despite a tough race in Le Mans, Danilo Smeriglio, Federico Soave and Marco Vinciullo finished in P4, just enough to claim the class win
After winning in DPi, Wave Freem eSports claims LMP2 title as well. #47 had a commanding lead coming into Le Mans, with 28 points separating them from BHK Motorsport #16, but with 50 points up for grab anything could happen. In order to win, Wave Freem needed to finish 4th or higher. In the end, they managed to do just that but it has not been easy.
In the early stages of the race the Oreca #47, which started the race in P3, hit the barriers hard exiting Porsche curves and was forced to repair for some minutes losing a lot of time and positions. During the comeback, in the middle of the night a contact with ELTA Customs #97 GTE could have ended both teams’ race, but luckily for them the two cars could continue.
Season 3 gifted a happy ending to the Wave Freem LMP2 crew. In Season 2 the 12 Hours of Le Mans wasn’t so kind to them. A connection lost during the final lap of a stint left the Oreca driven by Marco Vinciullo with just 2 litres left to complete a full lap. The car stopped just a few metres away from their pit stall and Wave Freem had to leave there their title hopes. In this season they got their redemption, winning the LMP2 class.
